SPEED, PART 1
The world’s greatest sporting spectacular
is here – the World Cup - and as millions around the world
join in to watch these incredible matches we at Renegade Training
will be launching an enormous series on how to dominate your competition
with Speed.
For more on this topic and to find out how YOU can develop explosive
power and speed IMMEDIATELY click
here for Speed, part 1. In this incredible DVD, Coach Davies shows you
the secrets behind Renegade Training speed development program. |
While many coaches in the so-called Strength
and Conditioning all-boys club will whimper about how they are not
responsible for win and losses
of their teams, while they post another losing season – Renegade
teams win because of our preparation and the mantle of responsibility
is firmly on these shoulders. It is of course easy to linger with the
rest of the coaching fraternity when you are used to being at the bottom
of the heap but victory comes to only one and that is where Renegade
teams have stood throughout my career. The choice is yours, make friends
with the many who cannot step up to the bar or take the challenge and
stand above the rest. This is not for the weak of heart or those that
clamor for the sanctity of acceptance – this is for the closers,
the winners and if you are not prepared for success, get out of the way.
Speed is the ultimate weapon of choice and the hallmark of Renegade teams.
Search within the never-say-die attitude of all our squads that collect
championship year after year -- you will not only find a relentless,
no, ruthless spirit but a physical development that understands from
first-hand experience that Speed kills. Speed will dictate competition
and turn the tables on any athlete and team’s fortunes. Speed will
bring the toughest competition to their knees and leave them wondering
what hit them. Sport training is not about pretty training plaques on
the wall or hollow comments long before the season. Renegade teams are
known to “perform on the field at an alarmingly faster pace than
previously thought possible and to dictate the ebb and flow, such that
they dictate victory.” All of that is a nice way of saying we’ll
run through you, around you or over-top. Anyway, any-how, any-day – we
will crush you, swift, silent, deadly speed.
Yet within training circles today it would appear that Speed training
has become the world of gadgetry, without out any basis or knowledge
in how to truly develop an explosive, fast athlete. Putting aside the
nonsense that seems to be sold as training today by the lab-coats, all
Renegade training measures are developed first in adherence to the “Renegade
Concepts of Training™” which are:
• Movements trained, not musculature
• Efficiencies of movement reinforced
• Motor patterning and grafting
• Postural alignment is perfected
• Stabilization in the most destabilized training environments
• Force developed such that it can be projected, accepted and redirected
at maximal levels.
• Adopt chaos as your “home.” When Hell becomes the cradle
I rest in – all else is easy.
With these concepts firmly in mind, using the “Renegade Wheel
of Conditioning™” all of our athletic programs have been
proven out with astounding long-term success.
The wheel is an interesting paradox of sorts.
In our thirst for athletic development, athletes search for the mysterious
elixir that will catapult
their playing abilities further, yet they often forget of how attributes
work together and focus upon one aspect of training. Yet no "one
thing" is the "whole thing" and to strengthen one spoke
of the wheel while ignoring others, will weaken the integrity of the
balanced, harmonious athlete that skill work can be developed upon. The
wheel in its most elementary stage consists of a balanced development
of
• Drive, Determination
• Sport Skill
• Range of Motion, Static
• Range of Motion, Dynamic
• Agility
• Linear Speed
• Strength
• Work Threshold / GPP1

As we begin our examination into speed development we must first understand
the basics of velocity and the simple formula: stride rate x stride length
as well as influencing elements; range of motion, strength levels
(all variations), movement efficiency and motor skills. In examining the role
of Stride Rate, which is paramount to our success, we will not only be
able to understand the athletes development to date but monitor their
future growth with information that will carry over to game performance.
To calculate stride frequency (rate) you will first need to calculate
stride length. While at top speed for 2-4 strides have the striking distance
of the rear of the back leg to the top of the front leg measured, divided
by the amount of strides. It is best to perform this test a number of
times to ensure accuracy. With this number along with the “flying
20” yard sprint follow the matrix below with the stride length
along the left-hand side which correspond to 40 times ranging from 4.30
to 5.0.

In our next installment of this series we will begin to look at the very
precise resistance methods and training protocols that have proven to
develop athletes with powerful and explosive game speed and why we keep
eating up teams decade after decade.
Don’t be fooled by pretenders; if you want success in the field
of competition this is the one route to get there. I take winning seriously
and have made my career based upon it, which is why you’re reading
this now. This isn’t about making friends or having “fun” – this
is about winning and overcoming the odds, which is something that I have
dined on throughout my life. The choice is yours, step-up or become part
of the meal.
