In the fall of 2004, he launch the Renegade Certification Program for fitness, health and business professionals to teach the "R" philosophies, and to use one of the company’s mottos "make a difference." Quickly this program has grown by leaps and bounds and like all Renegade systems is a defiant success. This summer/fall of 2005 he has turned his attention to developing the first dedicated Renegade personal and executive training services located in New York. These services will provide individual and customized training and coaching services for discretionary business leaders with focus on personal health, team management, motivation, diet management, and a wellness regime that will not only fuel continued career success but life enrichment.

SKYWALKER TRAINING, PART II

—an excerpt from “Air Time, the Renegade approach to Vertical Jump Training” available for only $10. CLICK HERE

The vertical jump appears to be the shrouded in mystery, although the protocols in improving it are somewhat easily understood and interwoven with the basic concepts of my training methodology. Above and beyond everything, as it is so often done, amongst the melancholy drone of “what is the one exercise”, my reply once again; “the one thing is the whole thing”. I won’t insult you with the little tricks that the well-marketed industry will pimp to you or equally tout you information that is cut and pasted from a text. Instead I will offer you up a simple tried, true and tested approach that will always get results. But to do so it is best to first consider a “refresher” course of the Renegade approach….

“Strength training for the Vertical Jump”
From a physiological perspective "strength" is a very broad term and a collection of different types. And while you can debate on the many styles of developing them and the relative merits, "strength" can be categorized in many forms of qualities such as absolute strength, starting strength, explosive strength, strength endurance and speed strength. Speed strength itself is loosely categorized to contain the aforementioned starting strength, explosive strength and reactive strength but there needs to be careful understanding of the differences between explosive and reactive strength in this instance, where explosive strength is the development of maximal force in the shortest amount of time without the use of the stretch reflex (please note the amount of work related emphasis of “dead stop” or “pause” reps). However the ability to put the brakes on and change, switching from an eccentric, yielding action to a concentric, overcoming one is one of the most important facets in training and hence why so much of our training focus lays in reactive strength/ability. This occurs during the "SSC" (stretch shortening cycle) of movement, metaphorically akin to an elastic band. Stretched during the eccentric phase, kinetic energy is stored and then immediately released in the rebound-like feel of the concentric portion. Greater reactive strength will shorten the coupling time (period between eccentric and concentric) and result in greater force and power. If you were to summarize it you would need to conceptualize that it isn’t simply the weight you move in training but the speed in which you do so while maintaining the correct postural position. Therefore the Vertical Jump is built with the careful blending of explosive and reactive strength along with technical proficiency and a watchful eye on the Renegade Wheel of Conditioning ™ at all times. This allows us then to construct the top ten exercises to enhance the vertical jump.
